Canvas quality control
A lift and its fabric are very useful for moving people who are losing a great deal of independence. Quality control, preventive maintenance and, above all, regular servicing of all the components of this equipment are absolutely essential. For example, an accident due to excessive wear of the canvas can be catastrophic.
Safety Inspection of Lift Covers
Regular use and maintenance of lift covers can affect their overall condition.
Canvas life is necessarily affected by a number of factors, including: washing frequency, washing temperature, detergents, disinfectants, bleaches, frequency of use, customer weight and misuse.
To ensure the safe use of fabrics in any care environment, it is essential that all fabrics are visually inspected before each use. As part of quality improvement in care facilities, a documented inspection program must also be established to formally test all fabrics to ensure their integrity and safe use! Any fabric that does not pass prior or formal inspection must be immediately removed and discarded.
Canvas life expectancy
Canvas has a limited lifespan and is an important safety feature. Do not use damaged canvas. The periodic inspection protocol can be used as a guide to determine which parts are particularly important to check for each canvas model.
The longevity of a lift cover is determined by frequency of use and washing, washing and drying temperatures, detergents/disinfectants, patient weight and incontinence. The average life expectancy of a sling varies from 3 to 6 years, and is influenced by many variables.
A lift sling should be visually inspected after every wash, and should undergo a load test for sling capacity every year. Quality control of lift covers must be carried out regularly!
